Bio

Aaron Geldert is an active musician and audio engineer from the United States, now based in Helsinki, Finland. His love for music and his technical background lead him to embrace all aspects of audio engineering, spanning digital signal processing, acoustics, music production, audio synthesis, and virtual and augmented reality.

Aaron is currently pursuing a Master’s of Science in Audio and Audio Technology at Aalto University in Espoo, Finland. His thesis research related to spatial room impulse response interpolation is currently in progress, supervised by Sebastian J. Schlecht and Nils Meyer-Kahlen.

He has been active in both student life and professional networks since relocating to Helsinki in autumn 2021. This includes membership in Polirytmi teekkarien jazzyhdistys (student jazz organization), performing in the 2022 spring season of Ylioppilaskunnan Soittajat Orkesteri (Helsinki University Student Orchestra), and a variety of other music and sound engineering gigs. Additionally, Aaron is a member of student organizations SIK (Sähköinsinöörikilta / guild of electrical engineering) and DADA (Digital Arts and Design Association) at Aalto.

In May 2020, Aaron graduated summa cum laude from the University of Miami Frost School of Music with a Bachelor of Science in Music Engineering, and was distinguished with the “Frost Outstanding Undergraduate Student” award of his class.

Aaron has diverse work experience that ranges from acoustical engineering at Bose, synthesizer testing at Korg, teaching assistantships, and developing for augmented and virtual reality platforms.

Other experience includes extensive work as a live sound engineer, live recording engineer, studio tracking and mix engineer. He has been able to engineer for esteemed faculty such as Grammy award winner John Daversa and Dr. Kate Reid. Some music projects are shared at Music. Another notable credit is recording engineering the orchestral film score to Pharrell Williams Hydration (2020).

Aaron’s musical achievements include performance in multiple premiere ensembles at the Frost School of Music, such as the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Studio Jazz Band, and Concert Jazz Band. He has performed onstage among artists including Arturo Sandoval, Jon Secada, Charles Calello, and Shelly Berg.

He has studied classical bass trombone under the instruction of Professor Timothy Conner. Aaron also is a classically trained pianist, a music instructor for elementary, middle & high school students.

While attending Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, Aaron also participated in the Brass of Peace Scholarship Program, under the direction of Sylvia Alimena; Northern Virginia Youth Winds, under the direction of Denny Stokes; and the National Jazz Workshop, under the direction of Matt Niess and Alan Baylock.

Other distinctions include winning a 2018 Against the Grain Productions Artistic Scholarship, 2016 National Merit Scholarship, and 2016 Ryan Feng Memorial Scholarship. Aaron was the Division I winner of the Bass Trombone Solo Competition at the 2016 American Trombone Workshop.

In his free time, Aaron enjoys running, playing sports, and discovering new music.
